Meet the Fashion Forward Amdavadi – Weekend Window

Standard

The style quotient is rising in Ahmedabad with every passing winter. Somewhere in the background, you hear the evergreen classic yet a clichéd song playing ‘Pretty woman, walking down the street’ with its drum beat rising in crescendo when you spot a stylish and suave lady entering the lawns.

Yes, this is the precise scene played out at Weekend Windows 10th edition at YMCA lawns.

From Cape cover-ups to rugged denims, from unstructured handloom dresses to biker jackets, from boots to gladiators, from indo-western to ethnics, one can spot all trends at this venue. We couldn’t miss out on suave bearded men as well. More update on men later today.

So go ahead and see who made it to Appleblossom’s ‘Fashion Forward’ Amdavadi list.

( PS – We will keep adding pictures daily. Get clicked by the very talented Peach from Kanami Photos who is collaborating with Weekend Window  and appleblossom  to give us these wonderful picture stories )

Best Dressed – Oscars 2016

Standard

For every phenomenon in the world, there is a mass opinion.

Then, there is your own personal opinion.

Sometimes, you seem to be in sync with the mass opinion, sometimes not.

I say, stick to your own flavour.

Unlike 2015 when stylists experimented with colours for the Red Carpet, Oscars 2016 witnessed a rather conservative approach when it came to selection of colours of the Red Carpet gowns.

Black, White, Ivory, Gold, Red, Blue and Green ruled the Red Carpet followed by few looks in blush pink, tangerine orange, marsala, champagne, yellow and Oriental floral embroidery.

It would be safe to say stylists played safe in colours but ventured in silhouettes and fabric textures : Deep necklines grazing till navel, cut out neck lines, sheer fabrics, textured fabrics with 3D embroidery and knife pleats.

So here is my list of the ‘Best Dressed List for Oscars 2016’.

Oscar 2016 Best dressed, Falguni Patel, Appleblossommy, fashion Blogger in Gujarat, Fashion trends 2016, Red carpet looks, Top fashion Bloggers in India, Cate Blanchett, Armani Prive blue dress, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, Roger vivier clutch

1. Cate Blanchett wearing an Armani Privé dress, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, and a Roger Vivier clutch.

Cate Blanchett looked as elegant as her character Carol. Stunning floral feathers and crystals adorned this dainty Limpet Shell blue shaded( One of the two Pantone Shades of 2016) floor length Armani Prive dress.

Elegance personified, indeed.

Oscar 2016 Best dressed, Falguni Patel, Appleblossommy, fashion Blogger in Gujarat, Fashion trends 2016, Red carpet looks, Top fashion Bloggers in India, Jennifer Lawrence, Dior, Chopard, Lingerie , Black

2. Jennifer Lawrence wearing a Dior Haute Couture dress and Chopard jewels.

She is a perfect combination of vulnerability coupled with sultriness. Jennifer Lawrence scored the Sultriest Red Carpet look at the Oscars 2016 with her lingerie-inspired Fashion trend look by Dior. Her ‘Joy’ knew no bounds with Chopard jewels.

Sexy, isn’t she?

Oscar 2016 Best dressed, Falguni Patel, Appleblossommy, fashion Blogger in Gujarat, Fashion trends 2016, Red carpet looks, Top fashion Bloggers in India, Priyanka Chopra, Quantico, Baywatch, Zuhair Murad, Lorraine Schwartz, White, Floral

3. Priyanka Chopra wearing a Zuhair Murad dress and $3.2 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

By now if you are fashion savvy, you would have figured the floral textured fabrics ruling the Red carpets this season. Another example was our very own Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra who has been grabbing eye balls with her role in Quantico. Dressed in the structured cage bustier mermaid dress in white silk tulle, she looked ravishing. Her attire was also adorned with 3D shimmering climbing flowers.

Hello Hollywood, says the singer-actor from Bollywood.

Oscar 2016 Best dressed, Falguni Patel, Appleblossommy, fashion Blogger in Gujarat, Fashion trends 2016, Red carpet looks, Top fashion Bloggers in India, Margot Robbie, Gold, Tom Ford, Forevermark jewellery, Gold dress

4. Margot Robbie wearing a Tom Ford dress and The Row purse with Forevermark jewelry.

Resplendent in the gold shimmer tailored to perfection by Tom Ford, Margot Robbie looked every bit of the 70’s Diva. Her blonder hair was matched to perfection with the golds of her dress.

Disco, anyone?

Oscar 2016 Best dressed, Falguni Patel, Appleblossommy, fashion Blogger in Gujarat, Fashion trends 2016, Red carpet looks, Top fashion Bloggers in India, Rooney Mara, Givenchy, Stuart Weitzman, Fred Leighton,

5. Rooney Mara wearing a Givenchy dress, Stuart Weitzman heels and Fred Leighton jewels.

If the Red Carpet witnessed its moment of creative cuts, it had to be this. Givenchy’s ivory Haute Couture gown was every bit experimental in its texture and above the navel rhomboid cut would go on to become iconic. Rooney Mara looked flawless in her chic hair do and dark lips.

Oscar 2016 Best dressed, Falguni Patel, Appleblossommy, fashion Blogger in Gujarat, Fashion trends 2016, Red carpet looks, Top fashion Bloggers in India, Charlize Theron, Dior, Harry Winston, Red dress

6. Charlize Theron wearing a Dior Haute Couture dress and $3.7 million worth of Harry Winston diamonds.

The ‘Mad Max’ star Charlize Theron looked stunning in the daringly plunging Red Dior Haute Couture dress. Her neat blonde hair do and the diamond pendant finished her impressive Red Carpet appearance for the Oscars 2016.

Oscar 2016 Best dressed, Falguni Patel, Appleblossommy, fashion Blogger in Gujarat, Fashion trends 2016, Red carpet looks, Top fashion Bloggers in India, Julianne Moore, Chanel, Chopard

7. Julianne Moore wearing a custom Chanel Haute Couture gown and Chopard jewels.

If classic was the question, Julianne Moore would be the answer. Looking every bit charming in her Chanel Haute Couture gown, Julianne cut a striking image at the Red Carpet Oscar 2016. Simple mid hair parting and classic Chopard jewels finished her look.

In my opinion, these seven women and their Stylists did the perfect mash-up of current Fashion trends with the classic Red Carpet colours.

What did you think about these looks ? Did your list match with mine?

Your Shopping Guide to Spring Trends 2016 – I

Standard

2016 has begun with the note of new promises, fresh beginnings, innovative ideas and killer trends. While the fashion cycle tends to be cyclical as the name suggests, some trends tend to percolate the markets much more as compared to others.

You must have already flipped through the Fashion Trend reports, breezed through Vogue’s and Elle’s of the world and scoured the local markets for the 2016 Spring wear trends. Thus I am forbidding myself to give you more ‘Gyaan’ on the same and share with you my favorite trends of Spring Summer 2016, style tips for each and your shopping guide for these trends.

To make your shopping life a tad easier, do click on the links suggested with each trend for your shopping indulgences. They will guide you through my favorite shopping sites for that particular trends.

So whether you are a careful buyer ( Like me ) or an indulgent shopaholic, go, have a look and let me know if you liked it and bought from it 🙂

  1.  Off Shoulder Tops

Bare Shoulders are in.

Do you remember Juhi Chawla’s white off shouldered top from the song ‘Tu hai meri Kiran’ ? Does it strike a bell ? The 90’s Off shoulder style has come to stay this season and bring in some relaxed boho vibe to the summery sun.

Style Tips

  1. Wear these breezy & glamorous off shoulder tops with long flowy skirts for a carefree boho look for an afternoon brunch or a casual evening out. Add some beach curls or french braid and you are ready to go.
  2. Style the uber chic formal off shoulder top with silk pants for a formal evening party. Strict hair parted sleek low pony would add the charm to this sleek number
  3. Grab an Ikat/block printed/khadi off shouldered maxi dress for the hip ‘Make in India’ look. Add some jhumka and twirl your side braids for an indo western look.

2. Large Plaids

The classic plaid print, that can modernize any silhouette, has been flying off the racks in 2015 and will continue to do so in 2016 too. A red plaid shirt tucked in distressed denims with sneakers is just the right outfit for an evening out with friends since decades. This year, lets try this trend differently, shall we?

Style Tips :

  1. Invest in one classic Red Plaid Shirt. I guarantee, it will last you next ten seasons. Style it with denims or black leather pants, depending on whether you want to go watch a movie or a rock concert.
  2. Experiment with Plaids and get yourself a maxi dress. This one is for the experimental divas who aren’t afraid to try on the big plaids. Keep the look chic and simple with relaxed hair and small studs in ears
  3. Try on a plaids saree if you are a saree lover like me. Take the desi cool a notch higher with linen saree. Team with with a lace crop top or a biker jacket for the glam look.

A Girl in a boho-chic skirt

Just can’t wait to get on the road again.
The life I love is making music with my friends
And I can’t wait to get on the road again.
On the road again

Goin’ places that I’ve never been.
Seein’ things that I may never see again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We’re the best of friends.
Insisting that the world keep turning our way –

Long skirts for me have been synonymous with a carefree attitude, chilled out summer evenings and a relaxed pace of mind. More popularly known as the Maxi skirts, I like the Indian version of this flowy five metres of fabric. The richness of the colors and its countless hues, varieties in fabrics, hand crafted work in the designs and the twirl that you get when you move – all to die for.

I would say , it turns out to be the most comfortable styling piece in the hot Indian Summers. Bollywood divas have also been flaunting it in lot of movies – think of Preity Zinta in Lakshya , Sonam Kapoor in Delhi 6, Yami Gautam in Vicky Donor, Mallika Sherawat in Pyaar ke Side effects, Kareena Kapoor in Qurbaan . The common element of dressing was long colorful flowy skirts, kohl eyes , junk jewellery and a boho- chic vibe to it.

I admit I am a big fan of this style sense.

Spring Summer Trends 2014, Floral Skirts, Maxi skirt, Green skirt, silver junk jewellery, appleblossom, Falguni Patel, Fashion blogger, Indiblogger,

I teamed a black cotton top with  a tribal folk art inspired floral skirt in bright green colors . The red border added the color contrast element to it. The Tibetan necklace and junk jewellery in the hands with Kolhapuri chappals finished the look. Did I mention, a half pencil of Kohl as well ?? 🙂

Maxi skirts are a big rage even for Spring Summer 2014. While the market is flooded with chiffon and knit fabric version, you could opt for the Indian textiles and rich colors to opt for boho-chic look.

Style tips –

  • – Wear this long printed skirts with solid colored tops and vice versa ( If solid colored skirts, then you can opt for either solid colored tops or prints like florals, nautical stripes, checks etc)
  • – Style it with silver/ dull gold matte finish jewellery to give it an eclectic vibe. The more , the better. Add color pop ups in hand cuffs, maybe a bandana, colorful Kolhapuris and vibrant jholas.
  • – Add a denim jacket/waistcoat or a colorful vest to add an extra style element or maybe throw around a colorful stole.

So while we are busy preparing for our next shoot, do send us your street style pictures on drpatel.falguni@gmail.com  if you want us to publish it on our blog. We welcome sartorial choices in styling.

Stay Stylish and keep smiling.

As always, share and spread the word, if you like 🙂

Spring Summer 2014 Trends – Crop Top

The runway reports have already been written , the Elle’s, Vogue’s and Harper Bazaar’s have featured it  – Trends Spring Summer 2014. Everything is up there on everyone’s favorite bitch “Google”. Fashion, trends and runway reports are now just a click away. But in this era of over exposure to all possible information, how much to consume from the varied assortments available is a matter of question. So I was obviously thinking what would make this blog different from any run of the mill blog ?

Decoding the trend straight from the runway , seeing its translation into street wear as strutted around by fellow international bloggers , checking its adaptation on Hollywood celebrities and then here in Bollywood – that’s what I will be doing in the Spring Summer 2014 Trends series.

Crop Top Richard Chai Spring Summer 2014

This Richard Chai’s white-green crop top wins my votes hands down. Out of all the tops showcased across the season, I was fascinated only with this one ( Partly because it is styled with white wide legged pants – season’s next trend ). Pair it with the similar white wide legged pants or fitted denims or burgundy pants. You will definitely be leaving few gasping for breath.

Crop Top trend 2014 – Fashion Bloggers

Fellow fashion bloggers internationally wore this crop top trend with Midi skirts. It definitely makes it a very elegant combination. The cut length of the top is made up for by the extended length of the skirt. All in all , a wearable trend. ( Go, hit the gym right now or join a belly dancing class you aren’t allowed to wear this trend with a big paunch , no ways !)

Like most women , I too have been through phases of on and off liking for the vibrant red color. It brings in so much of energy, life and passion , maybe even ostentatious cry for attention, seduction and power. No wonder ,however cliché the red color seems for love, it still rules the retail consumption around the globe on the Valentine’s day.

But let’s not think of scarlet red, Crimson red and burnt red here ( Yes, for those who don’t know there are different shades only of red color )

We will talk in this blog of color that will rule the 2014 Fall collection – BURGUNDY.

Wikipedia says : Burgundy is a dark red color associated with the Burgundy wine of the same name, which in turn is named after the Burgundy region of France.

Evening escapade

I have paired a classic Burgundy shift dress from Promod with a dull finish gold necklace to match with the gold zipper details of the dress. The cut of the dress and sleeve length makes it perfect for an evening escapade. Black envelope clutch and Leopard print high heels finish the accessorizing. Side braid and red lips complete the final styling.

Valentine day dress , color 2014 , Burgundy , leopard print

The same dress can be also worn through the day by tweaking the accessories a tad bit. I changed the Heels to Flat olive-green gladiators , chucked the gold necklace for a printed olive-green scarf and the black clutch for a tan leather satchel.

Fun flirtatious

The second look that I created was Burgundy high neck top and my ever favorite – always go to white pants. This look can be easily carried from day to-night by just changing the footwear and handbag .

The look was accentuated with nude/beige wedges , tan leather belt and tan leather satchel put nonchalantly across. I love the watch and the glares. They add that extra zing to the styling along with the high up do and red lips.
