Ethnic love at Nextdress

Standard

Recently I came across a video on spoken poetry called ‘ Validation’ by the Airplane Poetry Movement that is gaining momentum in India. The spoken poetry emphasized on the need to seek validation in every aspect of our lives. Be it social status, career ,love partner, being straight or gay, single or married, nerd or a flower child, we constantly seek approval at the base of it. In my little crusade to defy the norms, I have always been experimenting in life, more so in fashion & styling. Thus, dressing like a clone as projected on all Fashion portals seems but a lost cause to me.

With the incessant need to be different ( maybe wanting to be different from the norm is also some sort of twisted validation ? ) Ethnic wear finally paved its way in my wardrobe since around 2010. Like any other fashionista, I too passed through the stages of fashion fixation – at some point of time wearing denims & party tops, dresses and miniskirts and then finally finding myself most comfortable wearing boho chic long skirts, patiyalas and sarees. What a journey of finding oneself metaphorically through Fashion & Style..

This new year while I was browsing through various online portals, I pleasantly came across the site called Nextdress.com ,a site dedicated only to ethnic wear. While  I have spoken on the must have’s in Indian Ethnic wardrobe here , you might want to know what is so special about Nextdress.in in the clutter of other available portals. So I say read on further ahead.

Nextdress.in is a pleasure trove for those who want to buy beautiful designer wears at absolutely affordable rates. Started by a young entrepreneur and a mother of two kids, Nuzhat Shareef herself is in love with ethnic wear. On one hand, there are giant Fashion portals for western wear in India who have literally taken over business from small time vendors whereas on the other hand there are luxury Fashion portals for designer Ethnic wear by famous designers of India. There is a gap in the mid range segment Ethnic wear for those who want to look and feel gorgeous, at the click of a button. Nextdress is Nuzhat’s answer to that existent gap.

You will find all of it on Nextdress– from daily wear kurtis to opulent & intricate embroidered Anarkalis, from trendy designer wear sulwar kameez to the ever classic straight cut dresses, from uber sexy party wear sarees to the grand wedding collection.

On asking her about her venture , this is what Nuzhat Shareef had to say –

1) When did you decide to start your venture ‘Nextdress’ and why ?
I come from a business oriented family in Pune. The urge to do something on my own and create my own name was thus present genetically. I personally love ethnic wear.  Ethnic dresses are an epitome of grace. They are chic, elegant and make a strong fashion statement. While I was looking at  the Indian websites which sell ethnic dresses, I found that most of them sell at exorbitant rates. That is when the idea of starting up my own apparel store for Indian ethnic wear took shape and NextDress was born.
 2) Why did you choose only Ethnic wear for your Fashion portal?

I love ethnic dresses. NextDress is aimed at providing quality ethnic wear to ladies at very reasonable prices. That is not to say I have any aversion to western wear. Perhaps, a few months down the line I might add western and girls’ apparel too, to my catalog. Another reason for a fully ethnic site is western dresses can be purchased from anywhere. Good Indian ethnic dresses are hard to come by.
3) What are your personal favorites on the portal ?
These are 3 of her personal favorites.

4) What does Nextdress as a venture mean to you ?
NextDress has helped me understand the nitty-gritties of running a business and has eventually instilled a sense of confidence in me that a woman can be independent financially and emotionally. I did face a lot of negative flak from friends and relatives initially, but the more I heard it, the more I braced myself for any challenge that might rear its head in the process of establishing my business. It has actually paid off, in that, I now have my own store and my own brand – Nextdress.in
While Nuzhat shared her favorite dresses, I had my eyes on these beauties.
