History :

A necklace is an article of jewellery which is worn around the neck. Necklaces are frequently formed from a metal chain. Others are woven or manufactured from cloth using string or twine.Common features of necklaces include features such as colorful stones, wood, art glass, feathers, shells, beads or corals – a wide variety of other adornments have also been used. If a necklace includes a primary hanging feature, it is called a pendant, if the hanging feature is itself a small container, that is called a locket

Neck pieces vary in lengths like choker which more or less fits across the neck, mid length ones and long hanging ones. They also vary in metal in which they are made, like gold and platinum for the rich look, silver and brass for the funky look. Yet there is another genre of pieces made by shells, beads, glass , feathers etc which make very fancy statement pieces. Usage of felt, fabrics, reused paper, coins is also seen to give an edgy touch to them. Fashion jewellery is very IN nowadays considering the variety that people want in daily dressing up.

PEARLS

Pearls are timeless and classic .. They are the epitome of style and grace. They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend but for me , pearls are .. You can wear them at any age . Add pearls and bow in baby hair bands n clips, wear them as chunky pieces with silver chains in your teens , wear them as statement pieces in your 20’s and 30’s , go to single strands in your 40 plus . You could also add them as luxe pieces in your apparel /shoes/bags ..

Pearls are made from shelled mollusk. They are composed of calcium carbonate in concentric circles. They are naturally found and treated as priced gems. Fresh water and salt water cultivation are done to produce in bulks. Japan followed by China are the hub of processed pearls in the world.

The variety of pearl neck pieces are classified according to the lengths of its making.

collar, measuring 10 to 13 inches sits directly against the throat and does not hang down the neck at all; collars are often made up of multiple strands of pearls. Pearl choker, measuring 14 to 16 inches nestle just at the base of the neck. A strand called a princess length, measuring 17 to 19 inches comes down to or just below the collarbone. A matinée length, measuring 20 to 24 inches falls just above the breasts. An opera length, measuring 28 to 35 inches will be long enough to reach the breastbone or sternum of the wearer; and longer still, a pearl rope, measuring more than 45 inches  is any length that falls down farther than an opera

Audrey Hepburn days till now in Sarah Jessica Parker days, Pearls are a symbol of grace and class.

A standard pearl choker infused with big flower detailing . This statement piece would add an instant oomph to plain black or white sheath dress.

I love this grungy look of Sandra Bullock with black chains and pearls forming a heavy piece to make a statement. Adding the black element instantly transforms it into a more bohemian piece.

Totally in love with this very English charm of Anne Hathaway ~ the tweed , black and white and pearls 🙂  Chanel does know how to play with pearls and class. Pearls infused with silver chains and channel logo, small flower detailing becomes a perfect add-on to any dull outfit.

A long pearl strand can instantly stylise a plain tee-shirt or a plain dress . Wear it by the day or glam it up at night.

Ivory lace , pearls and bows are my weakness. I totally adore this look . Its plain surreal , transports me back to Victorian era of swooshing silks and satins, laces and bows , pearls n hand fans .

The shell flower with pearls form a beautiful neck-piece.  Wear it on simple blouse and a skirt to add that feminine charm. Wear it as a bold statement piece with Indian plain chiffon sarees in colours of aqua blue, mint green , peach , corals , pinks, grey , lilac, nude champagne , tangerine orange with an ivory lace blouse to give a contemporary touch to it.

Only Sonam Kapoor can mix the styles so well. The pearls with gold bling and added pearls on a crepe saree adds the classic touch to it.

My favorite Hollywood style icon with girly pink color and repeat loops of pearl strands 🙂

This one is with a twist . Fun pearl piece with Aqua blue satin bow . It will be perfect adornment to a white tee-shirt and a black jacket .

The Bronze pearls adding a chic glamour to the champagne nude dress.

One more delightful choker with ivory, cream, champagne colored pearls. It looks absolutely mesmerizing and feminine with the blush color mix.

One more lace, bow and pearly vintage piece.

Pearls have been used widely in Indian jewellery form as well . Mix them with emeralds and rubies for the Indian touch along-with the gold bling.

Hope you liked the pearls as much as I love them 🙂
